Building the Financial Backbone of Afghanistan
FreeBalance began working in Afghanistan in 2002. The FreeBalance Accountability Suite™ forms the backbone of the Afghanistan Financial Management Information Systems (AFMIS).
The system was progressively expanded to all Ministries and Provinces, and in May 2010, the authorities reached an important milestone by providing AFMIS connectivity to Nuristan, the last of the 34 provinces to be connected.
Major achievements include establishing the legal, institutional and operational framework for PFM and ancillary functions, and introducing the modern budget tools and automated payments through the AFMIS.
Since the fall of Kabul in August 2021, FreeBalance no longer has a presence in the country.
