Since 2006, great strides in automating ERCA’s operations with daily operations has much improved and service delivery to importers, exporters, taxpayers and other customers has become a lot easier.

SIGTAS was selected and implemented to automate the administration of Value Added Tax (VAT) for the entire country. The overall project goal aimed to modernize the fiscal administration, improve efficiency and increase tax revenues.

In 2004, the VAT management system was implemented at the Addis Ababa Large Tax Office and was used for managing all VAT tax returns and payments. The ERCA achieved great successes in revenue collection.

Between 2006 and 2010, the ERCA has tripled revenue collection from 11.2 billion birr to 35.6 billion birr and grew the tax contribution to government revenue from 37.54% in 2006 to 55.35% in 2010.
